For 40 years, National Urban Fellows has advanced its mission “to develop accomplished and courageous professionals of all ethnic and racial backgrounds, particularly people of color and women, to be leaders and change agents in the public and non profit sectors, with a strong commitment to social justice and equity.” They have continually sought to build leadership that reflects the diverse individuals, talents and backgrounds of our changing nation, while addressing the unique leadership challenges and opportunities encountered by people of color and women in the nonprofit, philanthropic and public sector. As part of these efforts, they launched America’s Leaders of Change.

Why should you apply?
At YNPN Detroit, we are lucky enough to have some insider insight into the program. Our very own Angela Richardson is part of the second cohort of America’s Leaders for Change. Check out what she had to say about her experience:
Participating in the America’s Leaders of Change program has transformed my personal leadership definition. In the last eight months, I have gone from simply performing daily tasks at work into learning to be responsible, self reflective and how to build collective leadership. Through the program’s executive/peer coaching, webinars and networking, I have become empowered to speak up and be accountable for my actions. Most importantly, I have learned how to practice effective leadership and accomplish measurable career and life goals regardless of my job title.
I believe that our community would benefit tremendously from several of us making the personal investment to become effective leaders of change. The national network of colleagues, executive/peer coaching, leadership webinars and in person forums that America’s Leaders of Change offers are designed to both enhance and further develop your existing leadership skills.
